Open Line Friday

Since May? Wow. Crazy. Well, those great memories aside, let's get down to it. What happened to The Reverend Preaches? Why did I stop after having a good amount of people hooked in to listening to me? Two words: Rustic job.

I'm not going to get into what the job was, but I was cut off from the ability to record for 3 months. OK, that explains the summer, what about fall and part of winter? Well, I had a lot of stuff happen, and at one point, I found myself in the tents of Oktoberfest half a world away. So that gets us to just recently.

I tried, believe me, I tried to start it up again. After losing a great start to a computer crash, nothing seemed to work. I started repeating things from old shows, making bad music choices, etc. I wanted to keep doing a podcast, but I just couldn't do it by myself.

The Reverend Preaches is sadly, no more. I wish I didn't have to write that sentence, but what is, is. It's been a wild ride and I've enjoyed the hell out of it. I hope that any that listened did as well.

Wait, hold on. Not by myself...but maybe...

I sent off an e-mail to a friend of mine who I enjoy discussing things with and who was also a regular listener to The Reverend Preaches asking him if he wanted co-host a podcast with me. He accepted, we recored, I did some slight edits, and that brings us to today.

So here's the skinny on the new show (in handy list form!):

it's recorded late Saturday night/early Sunday morning
there are no open lines
the co-host's name is Grau
there's good ol' ranting
a guy named Matt was there too
a new show will be released every week, on Sunday or Monday

My friends at Lone Dominion and I decided to get together and record a joint podcast. It went well, very well, but then (in Ben's words) this happened:
Lone Dominion 3 and The Reverend Preaches 8: The Lost Episode.

"Some might say something like this just for publicity (or sympathy), but
such is not the case at all here.

Tonight, Jordan, Kevin and I headed to Mark's to record the joint
episode ("Barking Rabbits 1"). Just as we were wrapping up (after over
an hour of pure talking!), the microphone got unplugged, causing
Audacity to pause automatically. I moved to save the file, but Mark
said that would freeze it if the microphone has been disconnected, and
to instead click "X" to close the program, since it would prompt to
save. We did that, since it had worked for him in the past so we were
working with what we knew (or thought we knew), but unfortunately,
Audacity completely closed with no prompt. All of the content was lost,
save for a very short video on my camera which I'll upload later.

The tentative plan is to convene sometime next week to record again. In
commemoration of the episode which was truly lost, there will never be
podcasts labeled LD 3, TRP 8, or BR 1.

Also, I will spend a while trying to determine if remnants of the
episode were actually saved to my laptop's hard drive, or if it was all
stored in RAM and purged the instant Audacity closed. If anything was
written to the HD (even if it's "deleted"), it MIGHT be recoverable --
however, if it's not actually designated as files, it will be impossible
as well. Wish me luck, but I think it's safe to say the chances of this
are negligible.

Assuming no success with data recovery, LD and TRP are cutting our
losses well and moving on -- as Mark said, we had a good rehearsal. And
as Jordan said, this might serve to only enhance the episode when we
actually do get it recorded. Kevin proposed never even mentioning this
publicly, but I do think it merits mention... the episode may have been
lost, but it will never be forgotten."

So we are going to try it again, but there will be NO Sermon #008 in memoriam of Barking Rabbits 1. Barking Rabbits 2 is tentatively scheduled to record next week.

Hey guys,

This is going to be the home of my podcast "The Reverend Preaches" until I get the actual site set up. TheReverendPreaches.com will forward to this site. Anyway, I'm not your normal Reverend. I curse, talk about sex and porn, listen to music deemed by some to be "evil" (I also listen to Jazz, but is evil as well.)
